Zimbabwe’s New Cricket Chapter: Fresh Captain, Big Squad for Bangladesh

Harare, ZimbabweSaturday, July 4, 2026

Zimbabwe has chosen a new leader and built a strong team to play Bangladesh in July.

Fast bowler Richard Ngarava will captain the side for the first time in 50‑over games.
The decision follows his good performance and calm presence during the last Test match.

Ngarava is not alone in command. Experienced players Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza will support him.

  • Raza has recently played in England’s Vitality Blast, bringing useful skills and recent match fitness.

The squad has 15 players that mix young talent with seasoned experience.

  • Innocent Kaia, who scored a big Test century last season, will open the batting.
  • Other strong batters include Ben Curran and Brian Bennett.

The bowling lineup is designed for Harare’s conditions.

  • Ngarava will lead a fast attack that also features Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, Ernest Masuku and newcomer Newman Nyamhuri.
  • Spin options are Ryan Burl, Wessly Madhevere, and left‑arm specialist Wellington Masakadza.

Two wicketkeepers, Tadiwanashe Marumani and Clive Madande, will stay in the team for stability.

The series starts on July 6 at Harare Sports Club after a long break from ODIs.
Zimbabwe aims to turn its recent Test success into white‑ball victories.
