Women Join Ukraine's Foreign Legion in Poland

Ukrainian women living abroad are now allowed to join Poland's Ukraine Legion, a big shift in the war effort. This legion, based in Poland, has started accepting women for the first time. They'll focus on medical and communication roles. This comes as Ukraine faces a shortage of troops. Women have long been fighting for Ukraine since the 2014 annexation of Crimea, but now they're also joining foreign legions. The Ukrainian Legion in Poland is training its second group of volunteers. The first group is already in Ukraine.

Ukraine's parliament is discussing changes to allow women to be drafted. Right now, only men over 25 can be drafted, but women can volunteer. Since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, women have taken on more combat roles. There are millions of Ukrainian refugees abroad, and volunteers from other countries are also helping. The Ukrainian Legion's representative said they're seeing more recruits, showing growing trust in the initiative.
