Windows 11's Recall Feature: Still Not Ready, Now Aiming for December

Recall, a controversial feature for Windows 11 that was supposed to help users find anything done on their PCs, is facing yet another delay. Initially planned for October, Microsoft now says they need more time to get it right. The feature, which takes regular "snapshots" of your computer and uses AI to make searching easier, faced strong backlash due to security concerns after Microsoft Build 2024. Microsoft has added some security features since then, like making Recall opt-in and encrypting the snapshot database. But even with these changes, Recall still isn't ready. Microsoft believes they can have a beta version ready for testing by December.

The delays are mostly due to Microsoft's efforts to fix the security issues. They've made Recall optional and allowed users to uninstall it. In September, Microsoft posted a blog about their security work on Recall. They confirmed that Recall doesn't share snapshots with Microsoft or third parties. However, there's some confusion lately. Some YouTubers claimed Recall was secretly installed with the Windows 11 24H2 update. Microsoft denied this, saying Recall wasn't available at that time. The 24H2 update has been causing its own share of problems, like system crashes.
