Windows 10 and Microsoft 365: The Truth About Support Deadlines
Wednesday, May 14, 2025
The recent buzz is due to a new page on Microsoft's documentation site. This page states that Microsoft will provide security updates for Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 until October 10, 2028. This is not a surprise. It matches the extended security updates available to enterprise customers.
It's important to understand what "won't be supported" means. It means Microsoft will no longer test new releases on Windows 10. They will still provide security updates. Enterprise customers can still open support cases, but there are limitations. If an issue only occurs on Windows 10, support will ask the customer to move to Windows 11. If the customer can't upgrade, support will provide limited assistance.
Consumers using Personal and Family editions of Microsoft 365 will still get security updates. However, they won't get much help if they call support.
