Why Vision Matters: A Look at Concussions in Young Athletes
Saturday, December 14, 2024
The questionnaire looked at something called the "near triad impairments. " This refers to problems like difficulty focusing on close objects, trouble seeing clearly at close range, and issues with eye teaming—when your eyes work together as a team. These issues can make it hard to duck, dodge, or catch that fast-moving puck in hockey.
Researchers found that athletes with a history of concussions were more likely to have these vision problems. This shows how important it is to pay attention to vision after a concussion, especially for young athletes.
Testing vision after a concussion might not be a common practice yet, but it could make a big difference in how well athletes recover and perform. Maybe one day, it'll be standard to check vision right after a concussion, just like checking for other injuries.
