From different worlds, focusing  on the map. Greenland and Denmark - two nations, two histories. Greenland is an independent nation. Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark. This isn't about politics, but rather the power of culture and voice. Denmark sees the value in Greenland's heritage, the independence of its people, and the importance of its presence in global politics.  Greenland's own distinct heritage, both in landscape and in people calls for self-determination.  Greenland has been a disputed territory historically speaking.  Greenland as Danish colony was given a final stamp when home rule over Greenland was finally granted. These rulers had a clear idea - an independent Greenland matters. In modern times, the suggestion of purchasing Greenland  has upset many indigenous groups and reinforced the motto: Greenland is not for sale and never will be. Trumps suggestion to challenge the integrity of Greenland is an attempt at reversing this progress and has caused quite a stir.

Why see it differently.  This is a whole new ballgame.  Its part of the struggle for self-determination.  Greenland's independence means so much more. There isn't a clear winner in this race.  But, it is important to remember that the people of Greenland and Denmark have a tricky relationship. On the one hand, we have a rich maritime history, from the time when Greenland was a Danish colony to the present.  Greenland is an important location and strategic advantage for Denmark.  This fact came into play again in 2019 when Trump made his suggestion about purchasing Greenland.  Greenland's value lies not just in its economic potential, but also in its historical significance and strategic importance. It raises questions about nationalism, globalization and self determination.   Denmark has issues of colonialism  within its borders, is it ready to admit defeat?

    Greenland's leaders come from all walks of life.  Ms. Seeberg, has always advocated for Denmark's political  standing.  Mr. Lynge, a lifelong advocate of Greenland's self determination.  He is a strong-willed leader and a frontrunner in a political party known for advocating for self-determination.

The offer to buy should have never been entertained.   But more importantly, we should have learned from this.  Greenland is not a commodity.  Greenland is not for sale and never will be.
