Why Explosions Are the Biggest Threat to Russian Troops

In a recent study by military doctors, it was found that nearly 75% of Russian soldiers die due to explosions. This study, published in the Military Medical Journal, looked at soldiers who died in battle or during evacuation. The second most common cause of death was gunshot wounds from small arms, making up about 15% of fatalities. Most of these cases involved a single wound. Other causes included thermal injuries, blunt trauma, stab wounds, asphyxia, drowning, poisoning, and health issues like heart failure.

The report mentioned injuries from M30A1 missiles, which are used by Ukrainian forces. These missiles can cause multiple organ injuries, leading to higher fatality rates. Ukraine estimates that Russian troop losses have been high, with over 674, 000 casualties since the war started. The British Ministry of Defense also reports significant losses, with an average of over 1, 000 casualties per day in September. Russia has not updated its troop loss figures since September 2022, while Ukraine also doesn't provide regular updates. According to The Wall Street Journal, around 1 million people, mostly soldiers but also civilians, have been killed or wounded in the conflict.
