While most people get better in a couple of days, the virus can be serious. It causes an average of 900 deaths and over 100, 000 hospitalizations annually, mostly among older adults. Young children also require lots of emergency visits due to it. So, how do you catch norovirus? Usually, sick people spread it by sharing food or utensils. It can also be picked up from contaminated food, water, or surfaces. Once you've got it, symptoms can appear quickly, within 12 to 48 hours. The best way to protect yourself is by washing your hands often and cleaning surfaces with disinfectants.
