Why Apple Missed the Mark with the iPhone 16 Series: 12GB RAM Upgrade Omission
USA, United StatesSunday, September 15, 2024
By not introducing a RAM upgrade, Apple has given customers one less reason to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which might reduce the Average Selling Price (ASP) of the devices. The only difference between the A18 and A18 Pro chipsets this year is a single GPU core, making it even harder for customers to justify the extra cost.
So, what's the real cost of missing out on a 12GB RAM upgrade? For one, it means that customers will have to wait an entire year to see the upgrade, which might not be worth the extra money. Additionally, the lack of a RAM bump might reduce the appeal of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, potentially impacting sales and revenue.
But let's not overlook the benefits of 8GB of RAM. It allows for smoother multitasking, increased headroom for running apps, and the ability to run AAA games natively on every iPhone 16 model. However, these benefits would have been even more pronounced with a 12GB RAM upgrade.
