Apprenticeships were common then, too. They could lead to good jobs, but they often meant tough conditions for kids from poor families. Some kids were basically servants. Rich kids had better chances at real training. Now, child labor laws help keep kids safer, but there's still a concern that businesses might prioritize profits over kids' education.
Linda McMahon’s organization, America First Policy Institute, wants to give out scholarships for K-12 education. That sounds good, but what happens if public schools lose funding? Look at Texas, where a similar plan caused a big fight among Republicans. They worried that private schools wouldn’t take in all the kids, leaving some without any decent school options.
Public schools have taken a long time to get right, but they’re crucial for all kids. They make sure every child gets an education, no matter where they live or how much their parents earn. Let's be careful not to go back to a system that hurts some kids more than it helps.
