What's Next for Boeing's Troubled Starliner Spacecraft?

Boeing's Starliner spacecraft made a splash-free landing in the New Mexico desert a couple of months ago, but sadly, it wasn't carrying any astronauts back from the International Space Station. The spacecraft, which was supposed to bring back NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore from their summer trip, returned empty and has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Since then, Boeing has been quiet about the spacecraft's future. Two top officials, including the head of Boeing's human spaceflight program, were supposed to attend a news conference in Houston. But just before it started, they dropped out. Instead of speaking publicly, Boeing sent out a short statement saying they would review the data and figure out what to do next.

But that was weeks ago. Despite requests for updates, Boeing has been silent. The company's new CEO, Kelly Ortberg, is currently reviewing all of Boeing's businesses. It seems Boeing is trying to decide if Starliner is worth keeping around or if it should be sold. After spending $1. 85 billion on Starliner and losing that much, Boeing has told NASA they won't be bidding on certain types of space contracts anymore.
