Watermarking AI Text: DeepMind and Hugging Face's New Tool
Google DeepMind, London, United KingdomFriday, November 1, 2024
You don't need to retrain your AI to use SynthID Text. Just set some rules to balance the strength of the watermark and how well the AI responds. Each AI can have its own set of rules, stored safely to keep others from copying it.
For each set of rules, you need to train a special detector. It learns to spot the invisible mark in text. With just a few thousand examples of normal text and watermarked text, the detector gets smart.
DeepMind and Hugging Face open-sourced SynthID Text, making it easy for others to use. They tested it with Gemini models, showing it works well even with millions of users.
But remember, this tool isn't foolproof. It can't stop really sneaky people from causing harm. It just makes it harder for them. Combining it with other tools can help even more.
