Water Plants Under Climate Pressure: A Look at Tehran's Future

Climate change is shaking up water treatment plants, especially in places like Tehran. Scientists are worried about a green algae called chlorophyll-a, which can cause problems in water quality. To understand how climate change affects water flows, experts used a model called SDSM. They looked at the Latyan Dam and Tehranpars Water Treatment Plant (TWTP) and found that minimum temperatures might rise by up to 93% in the Jajrood watershed. Rainfall patterns are also changing, with more rain expected during dry seasons.

This could lead to more streamflow, increasing the risk of flooding and harming the economy, health, and environment. Six different models were used to predict chlorophyll-a levels, and three of them showed the best results. Despite slight effects on chlorophyll-a concentrations, the changes in water flow are significant. This means water quality might face big challenges in the future due to climate change.
