Was It an Accident? Bulgarian Ship Denies Cutting Baltic Cable
Tuesday, January 28, 2025
The shipping company, Navibulgar, firmly denies any intentional harm. The company's CEO, Alexander Kalchev, emphasized that the ship was simply passing over the cable, and it’s unclear exactly when the damage occurred. He hopes that the investigation will prove this was an unintentional accident caused by harsh weather.
The Vezhen, capable of carrying up to 32, 000 tons of cargo, was launched in 2022 and was transporting fertilizer. The ship's automatic identification system provides clear evidence of its route, which includes the area where the cable was damaged.
