Warm New Jersey Heat Hits Record, but Short‑Lived
New Jersey, USAThursday, March 12, 2026
Coastal towns stayed cooler because of the ocean’s chill. Beach Haven recorded only 60°F, Point Pleasant reached 69°F and Seaside Heights managed 71°F. In Sussex County the heat was strong, with Newton and Walpack both hitting 81°F, while Layton, Sussex, Sandyston, Sparta and Lafayette stayed around 79°F. Andover warmed to 78°F. Sussex matched its March 10 record of 80°F, and Walpack even broke the old mark set in 2016. Bergenfield in Bergen County also topped its own March 10 record, reaching 82°F.
Meteorologists say the heat won’t last long. A cold front is expected to move in late Wednesday night and stay through Thursday morning, dropping temperatures steadily. The highest temperature of the day will likely occur around midnight or just after, as the front passes.
