Cedar Ridge Preserve, just 15 miles from downtown Dallas, seeks volunteers on the third Saturday of each month. You can help restore trails and work in the butterfly garden. The organizers provide tools, and you should bring water, sunscreen, and bug repellent.
Bonton Farms is another cool place to volunteer. They need help with farm chores like goat milking and plant harvesting. Volunteer slots are available on weekdays and the second Saturday of the month. Kids under 16 need adult supervision.
