Voters in LA Say Goodbye to Gascón
Los Angeles County, USAWednesday, November 6, 2024
The election comes after two failed recall attempts against Gascón. Voters also made other changes, like making some crimes tougher to commit once again. This included making repeat shoplifting a felony and upping penalties for certain drug offenses.
Hochman's victory was significant, backed by police unions, victim advocacy groups, and even former district attorney Jackie Lacey, whom Gascón had beaten in his last election. He ran on a promise to make sure crimes are punished again, which seemed to resonate with voters.
