Verizon's Tiny Apology: $20 Credit After Major Outage
A Major Problem for Verizon
On Wednesday, Verizon faced a significant outage. Over 1.5 million people reported issues on Downdetector. The outage lasted for hours, causing widespread frustration.
Verizon's Apology: A $20 Credit
To make amends, Verizon offered a $20 credit. However, customers had to work to claim it.
How to Claim the Credit
- First Steps: Verizon initially directed users to the myVerizon app.
- Additional Options: Later, they added that customers could also call or chat for assistance.
- Text Message: Some users received a text on January 16 with a link to claim the credit.
Claiming the Credit
- Log into your account.
- Go to Account Overview.
- Look for a red button labeled "Take Action" or "Mobile Actions".
- Click the button to see a pop-up about the credit.
- Click "Redeem Now".
- The credit will appear in one or two billing cycles. Verify its presence. If not, contact Verizon.
Customer Frustration
Verizon admitted the credit was not enough, but it was their way of saying sorry. Many customers are upset, citing the small amount and the non-automatic process. While the process is simple, customers question why Verizon can't automatically apply the credit to everyone's bill.
Updated Claiming Methods
Verizon later clarified that the credit could be claimed through phone, chat, or online, not just the app.
