Vaccines: A Savior Story
USAMonday, January 27, 2025
dr. jon lapook from cbs news explained that vaccines save about 2-3 million lives globally each year. taking a look back, vaccines have saved around 154 million lives worldwide in the past 50 years. wow, right? but lately, folks skipping shots have led to a rise in diseases like measles, and even polio made a comeback in new york in 2022.
polio was a nightmare that left many kids paralyzed, but thanks to vaccines, it's almost gone from the u. s. since the 1950s. measles, too, was a big problem in the 1960s, with thousands of kids hospitalized and around 500 dying each year. the mmr vaccine changed all that. and let's not forget rubella, which was especially dangerous during pregnancy. now, with vaccines like mmr, we've got strong protection.
