U.S. Education Department Launches FAFSA Beta Testing for Students

The U.S. Department of Education is kicking off a phased rollout of the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form with beta testing starting on Tuesday. Instead of limiting participation to just a few students, they've expanded the number due to high interest from community groups and partners. Over the next few days, thousands of students recruited by six different organizations will submit their FAFSA forms. These students come from diverse backgrounds such as low-income families, first-generation college hopefuls, and even formerly incarcerated individuals. The Department has chosen a mix of high schools, colleges, universities, and state agencies to participate in this beta testing phase. The goal is to process Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) during Beta 1 and send them to higher education institutions and state agencies. Colleges and universities will then test these ISIRs in their financial aid systems to make sure everything works correctly before opening the form up to all students on December 1st. This testing phase continues through mid-October, with more participants joining each time until tens of thousands of students are involved.

Submitting early might lead to delays or errors if changes happen during the testing phase.
