Upstate NY Gets Big Money for Semiconductor Research
Albany NanoTech Complex, USAThursday, October 31, 2024
Senator Chuck Schumer, who announced the news, is excited about what this means for New York. "It's a big deal, " he said. "This research will help our military and economy stay ahead of the game. " The plan is for the center to start working next year. It's all part of the CHIPS and Science Act passed last year.
This isn't the first time New York has been chosen for big tech projects. There have been other deals, like one with GlobalFoundries and Micron Technology. These projects are helping New York become a global hub for semiconductors. Schumer thinks this could make upstate New York the world's top spot for semiconductor research.
But where will the other two research centers be? That's still a mystery, as the Department of Commerce hasn't made that announcement yet.
