The United Arab Emirates is gearing up for a major boost to its economic partnership with the United States. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Emirati President, is set to embark on his first official trip to the US, focusing on the geo-economic aspects of their relationship. This significant move aims to shift the bilateral ties from the traditional oil and defense focus to a more innovative and sustainable partnership. 

According to Anwar Gargash, the Emirati leader's top diplomatic advisor, the trip is a chance for the UAE to invest in its future through economic means. Gargash explained that the primary objective of the meeting between Sheikh Mohammed and US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will be to discuss major regional challenges, including the war in Gaza, while also highlighting the opportunities in artificial intelligence, renewable energy, climate, and space. The meeting is expected to cement the already strong trade and investment ties between the two nations.

The UAE and US have a long history of cooperation, with bilateral trade valued at over $31.4 billion in 2023. The UAE's sovereign wealth funds, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Mubadala, have invested a staggering $1 trillion in American real estate, infrastructure, and technology sectors. The US is also the UAE's largest export destination, with exports totaling over $24.8 billion.
