UNIFIL Under Fire: What’s Happening on the Israel-Lebanon Border?

You might have heard that the United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, have been going through a tough time lately. Over the past week, the Israeli military has been causing trouble. They’ve been firing at UNIFIL posts, entering their bases, and even stopping their supplies. This has left more than a dozen peacekeepers injured. The international community isn’t happy about this, and the UN says it’s shocking. Israel claims that Hezbollah, a group they don’t like, is operating near UNIFIL’s posts. They have a headquarters in Naqoura and posts all along the border with Israel. UNIFIL troops come from 50 countries, like Indonesia, Italy, and India. They work in a big area between the Blue Line, which is like a border, and the Litani River. They have 50 posts and help keep the area safe, even though there are strongholds of Hezbollah around. The UNIFIL mission is renewed every year, and it’s set to continue until August 2025. But with all the recent troubles, some people are wondering if the peacekeepers can really do their job safely.
