Granite is a tough, acidic volcanic rock that makes up over 65% of silicon dioxide. This stone was crushed into smaller pieces, then mixed with a special type of glue called polyesteric thermorigid resin.

This resin is easy to find and doesn't need much time to harden. Plus, it's strong against harsh chemicals like acids and alcohols. The mixture was then shaped into tiles using steel molds. After they were ready, these tiles were put to the test by applying pressure. The goal was to see how the amount of granite in the mix affected how well the tiles could handle being squished.
