Scientists set out on a mission to make sense of something called 2-Methoxyestradiol (2ME), a tricky compound that is tied to some serious, damaging pregnancy complications and has a significant effect on tumor growth.

        So what's the big problem with measuring it? First off, it's present in tiny amounts in the human body, making it hard to detect. Second. , it has look-alike compounds, which is the scientific term that means these other compounds are closely related but not completely identical.

        To deal with these challenges, experts blended two technologies to create highly sensitive conversion method. You know how we all have different fingerprints, even if we're twins? This new method is like a high-tech fingerprint scanner for molecules: liquid chromatography, did their best to ensure 2ME sticks out, as it's use in mass spectrometry allows scientists to identify every single one of the smallest trace amounts of 2ME, and distinguished it from the look-alikes.
