Ukraine Seeks Allies' Help to Stop North Korean Troops

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants his country’s allies to act now. He fears that North Korean troops, training in Russia, might soon join the fight against Ukraine. Zelenskyy knows where these troops are but can’t strike without Western-made long-range weapons. He says his allies are just watching. The Biden administration revealed that around 8, 000 North Korean soldiers are in Russia’s Kursk region. They could help Russia fight against Ukraine soon. Ukraine’s military intelligence adds that over 7, 000 North Koreans are near Ukraine, being trained with Russian gear. Western leaders see this as a big problem. It might upset relations in the Indo-Pacific region and help North Korea’s dangerous weapons program. North Korea’s foreign minister met with Russia’s counterpart in Moscow on Friday.

Ukraine wants to use Western weapons to hit targets deep in Russia, hoping this will push Russia toward peace. But the U. S. says these weapons are limited. Ukraine is already using its drones to hit distant targets. Russia warns that any such strikes would be seen as a major escalation. Meanwhile, Russian attacks continue. Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, was hit overnight. A policeman died, and dozens were injured. In Kherson, a woman died, and three others, including children, were hurt. Air raid sirens in Kyiv lasted for hours. Russian drones hit the capital, causing a fire and injuring two people. Overall, Russia used over 70 Iranian-made drones. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry thinks Russia’s drone campaign is slowing down, with fewer drones used in October.
