Internet Back, But Social Media Still Blocked

Uganda's internet is back on, but not all the way. After a few days of being cut off, people could reconnect to the web late on Saturday night. However, social media platforms remain blocked. This happened right after President Yoweri Museveni won his sixth term in office. He's been in power for over three decades now.

Government vs. Opposition

The government said they turned off the internet to stop false information and election fraud. But the opposition thinks it's just a way to control the election and make sure Museveni wins. They also said the military was too involved in the election process.

Election Results and Controversy

Museveni got 71.6% of the vote, while his main opponent, Bobi Wine, got 24%. Wine is a popular musician who turned to politics. He says the election was not fair and that there was a lot of fraud. He also said that many of his supporters were arrested and hurt before the election. The government says those people broke the law and will be punished.

Protests and Aftermath

After the results came out, there were some small protests. In one area, young people burned tires and blocked roads. The police used tear gas to stop them. Wine is hiding somewhere in Uganda. He said the military tried to raid his house, but he escaped.

International Observations

This election was watched by groups from Africa. They said the internet shutdown made it hard for people to get information and trust the election process. Museveni is one of the longest-serving leaders in Africa. He might be planning to have his son take over when he steps down.
