Trump's Pick for Intelligence Chief Sparks Controversy

Washington D.C., USASaturday, November 16, 2024
Donald Trump's choice of Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence has sparked a storm of criticism from Democratic lawmakers. They argue that Gabbard, a former House representative, is too cozy with Russia to lead the country's intelligence agency. Jason Crow, a House Democrat from Colorado, expressed concerns about where her loyalties lie. Debbie Wasserman Schultz from Florida even went so far as to call her a "Russian asset". Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA case officer, was "appalled" by the nomination, stating it was a matter of national security.
Gabbard's past support for Russian-backed conspiracy theories and her criticism of US foreign policy have raised red flags. This is not the first time one of Trump's cabinet picks has caused a stir. Nominees like Matt Gaetz for attorney general and Robert F Kennedy Jr for health and human services have also faced criticism. The Senate, which has a Republican majority, will ultimately decide if these nominees are confirmed, but even some moderate Republicans have expressed reservations.
