Trump's Campaign Speeds Up Security Needs
USASaturday, October 12, 2024
Trump's campaign manager, Susie Wiles, started the ball rolling with a request two weeks ago, talking to Biden’s chief of staff, Jeff Zients. She then followed up with an email to the acting Secret Service Director, Ronald Rowe, on September 30. Meanwhile, Biden's administration has directed the Secret Service to ensure Trump receives the best protection possible. The requests also include using vehicles from Camp David and ramping up the stockpiles of ballistic glass in key states for Trump's outdoor rallies. Trump's team isn’t content with the pace of implementation and has grown frustrated, claiming that the Secret Service hasn't done enough to safeguard the former president. As a result, Trump has changed his routine, traveling on different planes and staying at various locations.
Some of Trump's requests might face legal hurdles due to restrictions on using the military within the US. Despite these challenges, the Secret Service continues to enhance Trump’s protection, deploying additional personnel, advanced technology, and imposing flight restrictions around his residences and events. The heightened security measures are a result of recent threats, including an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. The Secret Service has committed to adjusting and upgrading its security posture based on evolving threats.
