District Judge Tanya Chutkan as "the most evil person. " This comes despite the fact that Chutkan has already faced threats from Trump's supporters. The judge recently released heavily redacted documents related to the case, which Trump claims is "election interference. " Trump also took aim at special counsel Jack Smith, calling him "a sick puppy. " He complained about the release of the documents, which included information already public and relied on transcripts from the House January 6 Committee. Trump even questioned the fairness of the judge selection process, comparing it to a lottery. In another case handled by Smith, Trump had one of his own appointees, Aileen Cannon, who favored him in court and dismissed the case. The Justice Department is appealing that decision. Chutkan's security has been beefed up since she took on Trump's case, and she has faced threats from his supporters.

Last year, a woman was arrested for making racist threats against Chutkan. Earlier this year, Chutkan was targeted in a "swatting" incident. Chutkan has been handling Trump's case since his first indictment in August 2023, ensuring that his presidential candidacy wouldn't affect the case. Trump's team delayed the case, arguing presidential immunity, which reached the Supreme Court. When the case returned from the Supreme Court, Chutkan set a schedule to resolve issues, including what evidence can be used. Smith's team argued that Trump was responsible for the January 6 attack. On Friday, Chutkan unsealed redacted appendices, which Trump found upsetting due to the upcoming election. Trump faces four charges in this case and has pleaded not guilty. Smith's case hinges on proving that Trump knew his claims about the 2020 election were false. Chutkan recently denied most of Trump's discovery requests, finding his team's arguments strained.
