Trucker's Guilty Plea in Deadly Smuggling Case

In a recent turn of events, a 48-year-old man named Homero Zamorano Jr. has taken responsibility for driving the truck involved in a tragic smuggling incident in San Antonio. This case, which occurred in 2022, resulted in the deaths of 53 people. Zamorano is the third person to plead guilty in this matter, which has deeply affected the community. The charges against Zamorano include conspiracy to transport aliens, leading to death and serious injury, as well as the actual transportation of aliens resulting in deaths and injuries. The incident involved at least 64 undocumented individuals, including children, who were smuggled through Interstate 35. The truck stopped in the 9600 block of Quintana Road, where the migrants were left in extreme heat without proper ventilation, air-conditioning, or water.

The consequences were devastating, with 47 adults and 6 children losing their lives due to the harsh conditions. Zamorano now faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
