Intel's stock took a hit after the company reported increased uncertainty in the industry.  Its forecast for upcoming revenue and profit fell short of analysts' expectations, despite a strong start to the year.  Eastman Chemical also saw a drop after its profit forecast for the spring missed the mark.  The company's CEO pointed to increased macroeconomic uncertainty and unclear demand due to tariffs.

Skechers U. S. A. pulled its financial forecasts for the year, citing global trade policy uncertainty.  This move came despite the company reporting a record quarter of revenue.  These companies are not alone in struggling to provide financial forecasts due to the uncertainty created by the trade war.  The market had rallied earlier in the week on hopes that the trade war might ease.  However, the constant changes in tariffs are making it difficult for businesses to plan for the future.

The uncertainty is pushing households and businesses to alter their spending and freeze long-term investment plans.  This is a significant issue, especially for smaller businesses that lack the resources of larger firms.  Alphabet, Google's parent company, saw a rise in its stock after reporting a 50% increase in profit for the first quarter.  This helped keep Wall Street's losses in check.

The bond market saw a slight easing of Treasury yields, with the 10-year Treasury yield falling to 4. 28% from 4. 32%.  This drop comes after a surprising rise earlier in the month, which suggested investors were losing faith in the U. S. bond market.  The U. S. dollar strengthened against the euro and other currencies, recovering from earlier losses.  A report on Friday showed that consumer sentiment in the U. S. sank in April, though not as much as expected.  The survey indicated a steep decline in expectations for coming conditions.
