TikTok's Future in the U. S. : A Cliffhanger Decision
Saturday, December 7, 2024
President-elect Donald Trump, upon taking office, could grant a 90-day extension if progress is made toward the divestiture. During his campaign, Trump promised to "save TikTok, " but opinions within his cabinet are divided on the matter.
TikTok argued before the judges that the order to sell was unconstitutional, violating the company's First Amendment rights. They also contended that China does not influence TikTok's algorithms and that the platform is being unfairly singled out. TikTok creators have echoed this sentiment, noting that U. S. tech companies also collect user data sold globally, including to China.
TikTok has become a crucial tool for many Americans to earn money, promote businesses, and express themselves. It is used by about half of the U. S. population, including numerous politicians.
