Thunderbirds Show Skipped, Fans Left Watching the Sky

Thunderbirds Cut Short Colorado Springs Show

The Air Force’s famed Thunderbirds were poised to dazzle Colorado Springs after graduation, but a sudden weather shift forced an early cancellation.
Officials announced the change just before noon, allowing only a brief fly‑over and a single jet’s pass over the city instead of the full display spectators expected.

For five years, the event has taken place at Scheels All Sports on Interquest Parkway. The venue usually offers free hot dogs, music, and close‑up jet sightings.

Many attendees had planned their day around a 10‑to‑11 a.m. show, only to watch the sky from afar. “It’s frustrating because some people travel just for this,” said fan Andrea Rivera, who wished she had known earlier.

Local resident Daniel King explained that the Air Force waited as long as possible for better conditions. “The sky looked nicer this time than last year,” he said, but warned that weather could change at any moment. He added that most people would understand once the disappointment passes.

The Thunderbirds share a special bond with the Pikes Peak area. King’s nine‑year‑old grandson, Gunter Frazier, reminds everyone why the squadron matters to so many. Even when plans fall through, community excitement for the next show remains strong.
