The Twists and Turns of 'Bad Sisters' Season 2 Finale

The creator of ‘Bad Sisters’, Sharon Horgan, had a clever idea for the second season while shooting the first. This idea was about Grace’s ex-husband, Ian Reilly, and how Grace couldn’t escape her tragic cycle. The season finale reveals that Grace, played by Anne-Marie Duff, runs into trouble with Ian after she tells him she killed her first husband. Ian tries to blackmail Grace, but she refuses and drives off. Unfortunately, she gets into a fatal car accident right after. Angelica, played by Fiona Shaw, steps in to help the sisters. She hits Ian in the head with a heavy object, seemingly killing him. This moment changes how the sisters see Angelica. They realize they were wrong about her and she becomes an ally, even though she causes them trouble with Ian’s body.

Horgan and executive producer Dearbhla Walsh say they got inspiration for Angelica from people they knew growing up. Shaw describes Angelica as self-obsessed and not very cool. She thinks Angelica is both a victim and a perpetrator because the Garvey sisters treated her cruelly. The bigger problem, Horgan says, is the police system. The series shows how the police can protect bad behaviors instead of helping people. In the end, the sisters get away with most of it thanks to a bit of police corruption. Horgan and Walsh are thinking about a third season. They say it’s tricky because the show works because people believe the sisters’ situation. They need to believe it could happen to the sisters again.
