A Strong Signal from the Trump Administration on Crypto

Michael Selig is now the new head of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). This move underscores the Trump administration's serious commitment to crypto.

Selig has been working closely with SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and has been a key player in the CFTC's crypto task force.

A Crypto Genius Takes the Helm

Selig and David Sacks, the White House's crypto expert, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter). Sacks praised Selig as a crypto genius with deep market knowledge. Selig vowed to make America the top crypto country in the world.

The CFTC did not immediately comment, but Bloomberg News was the first to report the appointment. Selig's leadership comes at a time when regulators are increasingly focused on crypto.

New Laws Boost Investor Confidence

Two new laws, the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act, have excited investors by establishing clear rules for digital assets. Trump has long been a strong supporter of crypto, even discussing it in his campaigns.

The Trump family has also been involved in crypto. They own part of World Liberty Financial, and both Trump and Melania have their own meme coins.

A Bumpy Road to Appointment

Trump's first pick for CFTC chair, Brian Quintenz, did not materialize. Tyler Winklevoss of Gemini opposed him, and Quintenz claimed Winklevoss lobbied against him.

The CFTC typically has five commissioners from both parties. Selig has been at the CFTC since March 2025, previously working at a major law firm.
