The Trial Twist: Trump Assassination Case Delayed
Florida, USATuesday, December 24, 2024
Cannon has a history with Trump's cases, but she didn't step down from Routh's trial when he asked her to. Routh was arrested on September 15, after he allegedly tried to hide in some bushes at the golf club with a semi-automatic rifle. Secret Service agents stopped the attack, and he ran away before being caught. During his escape, he caused a traffic jam that led to a serious accident involving a young girl.
Now, Routh is facing five felony charges, including some for his escape and the traffic incident. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody wants justice for the girl and her family. Governor Ron DeSantis is frustrated with federal "roadblocks" but thinks things will change once Trump is in office.
This delay gives Routh's lawyers time to handle the new charges and get ready for a big case. It also lets Pam Bondi, Trump's pick for attorney general, prepare for how the new Justice Department will handle things differently than the current one.
