Scientists have been exploring how different sensors can help in the diagnosis and treatment of common cancers like breast, lung, colorectal, and prostate. By diving into research articles from 1991 to 2021, they found that biosensors are crucial in all these types of cancer. Electrochemical sensors are widely used, except in lung cancer. Electrochemical biosensors are popular in breast, lung, and prostate cancer research, but not so much in colorectal cancer.

Optical sensors are used in breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer in various ways. Oxygen sensors are particularly important in lung and breast cancer due to their use in breath analysis. CMOS sensors are mainly used in lung and colorectal cancer research. This study shows how sensors can point to new directions in cancer research and treatment, which could lead to faster diagnosis and better outcomes.
