The Risk of Government Reliance
USAFriday, October 11, 2024
We can afford this because we're one of the wealthiest nations in the world. But how long can this continue if more and more voters rely on government help? Our tax base is shrinking, and the top 5% of earners pay 66% of federal income taxes.
Progressives often look to Scandinavian countries as examples, but those nations have high taxes for everyone. In the US, we're relying on a small group of high earners to fund our economy. This isn't sustainable in the long run.
Our federal debt is a massive generational tax. Last year, the government spent $6.13 trillion, with more than half going to entitlement programs. The deficit was $1.7 trillion, more than the entire budget in 1993.
Politics has become an arms race of victimhood and class warfare. Both sides need to rethink their strategies and consider the long-term impacts of their policies.
