The Puzzle of HIS Adoption: What Sri Lankan Healthcare Workers Think

You might think that using Health Information Systems (HIS) in Sri Lanka would be a no-brainer. But, surprisingly, it's not as popular as it should be. Researchers wanted to figure out why this is happening and what could make healthcare workers more open to using these systems. They asked 170 doctors and nurses about their thoughts on HIS. To make sense of their answers, they used a method called Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with 5000 samples. They based their study on something called the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which they tweaked to fit the public healthcare scene.

Guess what? They found that if healthcare workers think HIS is useful and easy to use, they're more likely to actually use it. Also, if their bosses use HIS, and they feel supported, they're more likely to give it a try. Plus, if they're not super anxious about using computers, that helps too. This research could be a big deal for people making healthcare policies and those working with HIS. It shows that making systems user-friendly and providing support can go a long way in getting healthcare workers on board.
