The Power of Hertia Leaves: A Natural Weapon Against Obesity
Friday, December 13, 2024
One compound, ligularenolide, stood out. It showed promising cytotoxicity without any signs of causing cancer or heart problems. Other compounds, however, had moderate enzyme inhibition but higher toxicity levels. The stability of the ligularenolide-human pancreatic lipase (HPL) complex was highlighted in dynamic studies, suggesting its potential as an anti-obesity agent.
Ligularenolide was found to significantly inhibit HPL, with predictions showing it could be better than orlistat, a common anti-obesity drug. This was confirmed through PASS predictions and docking results.
These findings suggest that Hertia cheirifolia L. extract could be a natural source of anti-obesity agents. More research is needed to explore its therapeutic benefits.
