The Impact of Nitrate on Brazilian Tree Frog Tadpoles

You might think that frogs are tough, but even their young ones can be harmed by pollution. Scientists wanted to find out how badly nitrate pollution can affect young Brazilian tree frogs, called Dendropsophus haddadi. They did an experiment where they put tadpoles in water with different levels of nitrate. As time passed, more tadpoles died in the highly polluted water. This also made them swim worse. But here's an interesting part: the frogs that survived and were moved to clean water got better and didn't die anymore.

Plus, some tadpoles even grew bigger when they were in moderately polluted water. This shows that these frogs might not be as weak to pollution as we thought. They can bounce back from short exposure to nitrate. This is important because it gives us a better idea of how pollution affects these frogs and other similar species in their region.
