Imagine that.  A guy like Elon Musk is trying to get under the hood of the US Treasury's payment system.  This is not good.

    People in the know are worried. Let’s start with the guy who actually knows how this system works.  Many of the people who read this website may not have heard of David Lebryk.  He's been working with the US Treasury for a long time.  Since before most people started using the internet.

    Why is he important?  He's been “Fiscal Assistant Secretary”  since 2014.

    So what, right?  OK.  Let me break it down.  He is the highest ranking civil service employee in the Treasury.

    He has an awesome job.  He makes sure the cash flows smoothly.  No breaches of the debt ceiling.  No interruptions in federal payments.  He’s the guy who allows the system to keep running smoothly.

    Now, why does this matter?  The guy that has been running for President, Trump, was hoping to freeze federal funds.  This is bad.  But it is not the biggest issue.  The real problem comes  when someone like Musk is trying to take over the payment system.

    People are dealing with politicians trying to reach into their pockets.  This is frightening.  However, it is also important to understand that everyone is trying to make their lives easier and more convenient.  Billionaires however they do not care about these things.

    According to someone who knows their stuff, Musk has an agenda.  They want him to take over the Bureau of the Fiscal Service.  That means they want to be able to stop payments based on their own personal opinions.  They’ve been trying to get the details of the system.  This means they could stop people from getting paid. What happens when someone has a say-so over who gets money and who doesn’t?  It gets ugly quickly.

    Musk is trying to by pass the whole idea of due process.  He will want to stop payments if he doesn’t like what is happening.  We have seen this happen before.  Nothing good comes from it.

    This is bad.  We cannot just let anyone try and take over the payment system.  This is complex stuff.  What if they mess it up?

    Musk thinks he can get his hands on the source code.  This is a dangerous ideal.  He wants to know how the system works.  But it is not easy to understand or change.

    Imagine if the system went down?  People would suffer.  The Treasury does important things.  They oversee 88% of all federal government payments.  This is what keeps everyone paying their bills.

    Now imagine this.  Musk could stop payments to people he doesn't like.  This is not a good thing.  But Musk is not only trying to play with the money.  He is trying to get personal information.  This includes Social Security numbers.  He wants to know who is getting what.

    If you think this is bad.  It gets worse.  Musk is trying to stop payments to people and organizations he does not like.  This is already happening.  He stopped payments to an organization that helps refugees.  Why?  Because he thought they were "illegal".

    This is how people think when they have power.  They think they know best.  This is why it matters that Elon Musk and people like him do not get to make decisions about who gets paid.

    And remember people he is worried about the wrong things.  He is worried about the wrong people. Things are not always good for people who do not think like him.  This means we need a system that is fair and impartial.  Musk is trying to take that away.

    After all, who is in charge?  The money goes to non-profits, to schools, to companies, to you and me.

    So who exactly is Elon Musk?  He does not understand the complexity of what he is trying to do.  He does not understand how these systems work.

    We have to understand this is a dangerous game.  We do not want him to play with these systems.  We do not want him to interfere.

    The government needs to step in and stop him from getting his hands on these systems.

    If there is one thing we know, Musk is not the right person to be in charge.  He does not know what he is doing.  He does not understand the implications.  We need to protect our systems.   We need to protect our money.  We need to protect ourselves.
