At the Port of Los Angeles, a huge investigation came to an end.  A crime network was uncovered by the local Port Police and the Los Angeles Police Department.  They were looking into the theft of container chassis worth $600, 000.

        They finally arrested a male suspect.  They had been monitoring him for many months. The investigation led them to a facility in Gardena, California. There, they found 24 chassis that were likely stolen.  The suspect was caught there.  This took place in March.

        The suspect was a male in his 20s.  They did not give his name out to the public.  His first court appearance is slated for March 2024.

        This investigation was not the typical run-of-the-mill unsolved theft.  The crimes were one step ahead of the investigators.  The criminals would enter terminals at the port.  They would steal chassis that were supposed to be used by commercial truckers.

        When they stole the chassis, the criminals would change the chassis numbers.  It was not easy though.  The vehicles had the original identification numbers swapped out.

        They would resell them as brand new.  It was clear the crimes involved more than one person.  It was a network of thieves working together.  They were trying to figure out how many people were involved.

        The criminal network was able to change the chassis numbers at the port.  They would paint numbers over and add new numbers.

        They changed the vehicle identification numbers before reselling the chassis.  This was a very good process for them.  The criminals would resell the chassis at  a profit.

        They were able to do this for a long time.  They were able to do this because of the new identifiers they added.  They used stencils to add new numbers.

        The police were able to bust the network but they suspect there are many more criminals involved.  It is hard to track down a network of criminals.

        The police are still looking for more suspects.  The Port of LA is a big place.  It is easy for criminals to hide and operate.

        The Port of LA is a place for a lot of things.  You can find a lot of imported goods there.  However, you can also find criminals trying to make a quick buck.

        The police worked closely with the Port of LA. They are still working to track down the criminals.  They are working hard to track down who all the suspects are.

        This case could be a sign of a bigger problem.  It could be a sign of a bigger crime network at the Port of LA.  The police are still investigating this.  There is a lot of work to be done.
