The year 2026 is shaping up to be a big one for science fiction fans.  A sneak peek of a film called Project Hail Mary was shown at CinemaCon.  It is based on a book by Andy Weir.  This movie is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who have worked on films like "21 Jump Street" and "The Lego Movie. "

The trailer introduces Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a college professor at a small school.  Sandra Hüller plays a character named Eva.  She visits Ryland's classroom and asks him about a paper he wrote.  Ryland admits he wrote it, but he was fired for it.  Eva reveals that Ryland's theories might be useful because the Sun is dying.

Ryland is taken to a massive room filled with smart people.  Eva explains that the Sun isn't the only star dying; many stars are showing signs of infection across the universe.  There is a plan, but it involves near-light-speed travel and a journey so long that the astronauts won't make it home.  Ryland is hesitant, but Eva insists they need an expert, not an astronaut.

Ryland goes into space anyway.  The trailer shows some cool images of the ship in the vast, dark nothingness of space.  Ryland wakes up with a big beard and does various tasks on the ship.  Eventually, the ship enters a shimmering pink area and encounters another spaceship.

This other ship looks like it's made of thin, sharp pieces of wood.  It sends a small cylinder to Ryland's ship, which turns out to be a message.  Ryland enters the alien ship, which is more biological than his.  He records a video saying he met an alien and is working with it.  The trailer ends with Ryland seemingly collaborating with the alien.

The trailer gives a good sense of the movie's tone and story, but it's only about half of the book.  There's much more to the story, and fans can't wait to see how it all unfolds.  The movie is set to open on March 20, 2026.

The film is not just about the adventure in space.  It also explores themes of survival, ingenuity, and the human spirit.  Ryland's journey is not just physical but also mental and emotional.
