Tesla's Cybertruck Recall: The Sticky Situation

Tesla is facing yet another recall, this time involving nearly all of its Cybertrucks. The issue is a poorly attached panel that can detach while driving. This problem is serious because the panel can fly off at high speeds, posing a danger to other road users. Unlike software issues that can be fixed remotely, this recall requires owners to visit a Tesla dealership for repairs. The problem lies in the cant rail, a stainless steel panel that runs from the A-pillar to the roof arch and the top of the rear door. This panel has been detaching due to dried-out structural adhesives, which cause the mounting fasteners to delaminate. Tesla has identified the issue and plans to fix it by using a more durable adhesive and reinforcing the assembly with a stud-welded nut. The recall affects 46, 096 Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. This is not the first time Tesla has faced recalls. In fact, the Cybertruck has been the center of eight major recalls so far. This has led to a lot of frustration among Tesla owners, who have had to deal with frequent quality issues and public criticism.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the recall after receiving multiple customer complaints. Some owners reported the panel detaching and hanging loosely, while others saw it fly off completely. Fortunately, no injuries or damage to other vehicles have been reported so far. However, the potential risk is significant, especially considering the size and weight of the panel. Tesla's reputation has taken a hit recently, partly due to the actions of its CEO, Elon Musk. The company has also faced criticism for its frequent recalls and quality issues.
