Student Voters Face Last-Minute Challenges in Georgia Election
Friday, October 4, 2024
"We noticed that some students seemed apathetic about changing their registration from the home where they lived before the fall semester started to Lowndes County," said Kim-mya Thomas, president of Valdosta State University Young Democrats. "They felt like it was too much trouble for them, like the process was too complicated for them."
To address this issue, student leaders on college campuses are working with state and local officials to find a solution that works for everyone. They are also using social media and other channels to spread awareness about the importance of voter registration.
"We're trying to be proactive and get ahead of this," said Jackson Weeks, Political Director of GSU Young Democrats. "We've had a lot of interest from students who want to make sure they can vote in November's election."
