People with MLIV often face neuronal issues, gradually lose their vision, and suffer from achlorhydria, a condition where their stomach produces less acid. But hold on, here comes the twist – as these individuals enter their late teens or early twenties, their kidneys start to deteriorate, sometimes even leading to complete kidney failure!

What's up with that? Scientists think it might be due to a malfunctioning lysosomal channel called TRPML-1. When this channel doesn’t work correctly, it throws the kidneys’ functionality out of whack. But here’s the curveball: we still don’t fully understand why this happens.
