Southern California Braces for Biggest Windstorm in Over a Decade
Southern California, USATuesday, January 7, 2025
The National Weather Service is warning that the combination of strong winds and low humidity will make it easy for fires to start and grow out of control. To prevent this, Southern California Edison might shut off power to over 400, 000 customers.
Why is this happening now? Well, Southern California has been getting drier since late summer. Usually, this time of year is the wettest, but not this year. The weather has been swinging between extremes, which is happening more often as the planet warms up. This has led to moderate drought conditions in many areas, making plants easier to burn.
So, what can you do? Be prepared for power outages, keep an eye out for fires, and stay safe!
