The Southeast Michigan area is in for a rough ride this weekend.  The weather forecast is not looking good.  The region is under a heat advisory starting Saturday afternoon until early Sunday morning.  Then, things get even worse with an extreme heat watch in effect from Sunday morning until Tuesday evening.  It is going to be hot and humid.

The weekend kicks off with a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday morning.  But don't expect much rain.  The afternoon will be mostly sunny, with temperatures soaring to 91 degrees.  With the humidity, it will feel like 100 degrees.  Saturday night will be warm and muggy, with temperatures around 76 degrees.

Sunday is shaping up to be the hottest day.  Expect mostly sunny skies, but the heat will be intense.  Temperatures will reach 96 degrees, with a heat index of up to 105 degrees.  Sunday night will be warm and humid, with temperatures around 75 degrees.

Monday will be more of the same.  Mostly sunny skies, but the heat will be relentless.  Temperatures will hit 97 degrees, with a heat index of up to 105 degrees.  The high pressure system will keep the weather dry and hot through the end of the weekend and into the start of next week.  This means more days of high temperatures and humidity.

The heat is expected to stick around until mid-week.  Then, a frontal boundary will move in, bringing a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Temperatures will remain in the 90s for the middle of next week, before dropping into the upper 80s by the end of the week.

With such extreme heat and humidity, it's crucial to take precautions.  Heat-related illnesses can increase during these events.  Stay hydrated, stay indoors in air-conditioned rooms, and avoid the sun.  Check on elderly relatives and neighbors.  Never leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.  Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures quickly in this heat.  If you must go outside, wear loose, lightweight clothing and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day.  Watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
